About

Science Drawings is a website created by Miller Kids University to help students learn and enjoy science by drawing pictures.

This website has information on famous artists/scientists who used science drawings in their work, tips about how to use drawings to help you learn science, and ideas for things to draw about science.

Art and science are ways of learning, knowing, and expressing.

How can drawing a picture help with learning?

Seeing pictures helps with scientific thinking. Many scientists spend a lot of time thinking about their results and experiments and trying to plan the next creative development or discovery. Scientists often use diagrams, graphs, and pictures to help with discoveries. The images let them imagine and test new ideas. Students can also draw pictures to develop and show their understanding of science. Many students lose interest in science if they feel they are just memorizing facts. Drawing science helps make sense of scientific concepts and it makes it more interesting. When students make an image, it can help to solve a problem, reason, and communicate their understanding to others. Drawing can help students to pay attention and remember information. A drawing can help a student feel stronger about writing or talking about what they drew and learned. Science learning can involve reading, drawing, writing, and talking.

What is a visual?

A visual is a picture or display used to illustrate or go with something. A visual can be used after reading a book or information online to help you review what you have learned. Visuals can include concepts and information as pictures and words. They can be in the form of drawings, photos, charts, diagrams, or videos. Visuals can be used to give a picture of key words and ideas on a topic. Visuals are useful for organizing information, observations, and facts. You can use a picture or other visual to describe, organize, summarize, analyze, classify, or interpret something. Visuals help you understand the relationships among things, make conclusions, develop explanations, and generalize scientific concepts. For a science experiment, a visual can be used to show information from observation.

How is science creative?

Even though science deals with the real world, it takes imagination to understand the world and creativity to make science applications. In science research, you don't just know the answer, instead you have to seek it by creative methods like designing experiments and making sense of data.

How should I draw something?

You can draw by hand with pencil and paper or you can draw using a computer with a program like Paint, Power Point, or a drawing software.
